We were asked if we could meet with the architect/designer for our house to go over some of the energy efficiency and building science details we were hoping to accomplish. For details like that, a meeting is far easier than trying to do it by e-mail. Kim wasn’t available to join, so I met with Eric up at the builder’s office to go through the details.
Some of the details that we looked at included:
- Monopoly framing
- Air tightness details at the sill plate
- Roof framing
- Insulation details in attic and walls
- Window choices
I got a compliment on the air tightness detail at the sill plate that I called out. He thought it should be a standard, even though it wasn’t. I can’t take credit for it though. It comes from an architect named Steve Baczek who I heard about and have watched and read things on through his work with Matt Risinger who I’ve mentioned before.
